GRADE 11 UNIVERSITY ENGLISHCourse Outline:
This course emphasizes the development of literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills. Students analyze challenging texts from various periods; conduct research and analyze the information gathered; write persuasive and literary essays; analyze the relationship among media forms, audiences, and media industry practices. An important focus is understanding the development of the English language. (Course Provincial Outline and full expectations available by clicking on image) Texts in Mr. Rautiainen's class may include: * Aldous Huxley's Brave New World * William Shakespeare's Othello or The Merchant of Venice * various other novels, short stories, poetry Course Mark Breakdown Term: 70% of overall mark KU - 14 TI - 21 C - 14 A - 21 Culminating Activities: 30% overall mark Final Exam - 20% Persuasive Research Essay - 10% |
Late Policy
Students are encouraged to submit work in a timely fashion. Correcting and learning from mistakes is an integral part of learning; larger assignments (ex. Essays) may be re-submitted for additional marks if tasks are submitted on the day they are due. Assignments will be accepted for a period of time after due dates, but will be subject to late fees, as outlined below:
